A resume of the civil and criminal business dealt with at the Pukekohe Magistrate's Court since 1911, showing an increase on the civil side but a decrease in the criminal cases despite a big increase in the population, was given, as follows, by Mr F. Y. Fra/er, S.M., at the annual dinner of the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce on Thursday of last week, viz.:—Civil actions: 1911. 56; 1912, 74; 1913, 163; 1914, 384; 1915, 394; and 102 cases for nine months of the present year. Criminal cases: 1911, 107; 1912, 128; 1913, 88; 1914, 122; 1915, 186; and for nine months of the present year, 102. Mr Frazer accounted for the large number of civil cases during 1914 and 1915 by reason of a local body taking action against a number of defaulters for rates. He added that the Court sittings were now held twice every month as against once a month in 1911. '"Tell me. Mary, how to woo thee.
