WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE.

Pukekohe Branch. The monthly meeting of the Pukekohe Branch of the Women's Patriotic League was held in the Borough Council Chambers on October 10th. Present: Miss Webster (in the chair\ Mesdames Hogan and Baxter, Misses Graham and Usher. A letter was read from Mrs Gunson, President of the Auckland Women's Patriotic League acknowledging two large parcels of knitted goods, also batch of 50 hussifs. A letter was read from Miss Spedding, Secretary of the Auckland Women's Patriotic League, intimating the arrangement entered into between the newly-formed Red Cross Society and the Auckland Women's Patriotic League concerning the work which they have so long been doing under the name of " Hospital Supplies." Under this title they have provided for military hospitals at home and abroad, for various convalescent homes and for the equipment or re-equipment from time to time of the Hospital Ships, Maheno and Marama. This work will in future be done under the auspices of the Auckland Branch of the Red Cross Society. The Auckland Women's Patriotic League and the Victoria League have been appointed sub-committees and the Red Cross Society wish to use the organisation already affected rather than undertake the setting up of branches of their own. The same method of working and forwarding goods will be continued and all parcels will be acknowledged as heretofore.

The following is a list of articles required: Draw sheets (two yards long, one yard wide), pillow-slips (one yard when finished, no fastenings), ward slippers, pyjamas, day shirts, towels, tea-towels (large), old linen (well boiled), magazines and periodicals (in good condition), woollen garments to consist of scarves, socks, cardigans, singlets, pants. Balaclavas and mittens. Goods not wanted —Nightingales, bandages, sand-bags and splints. Miss Webster reported having sent to Auckland money equivalent to 257 Christmas Gift parcels, thus showing the splendid response the people of Pukekohe and surrounding districts had given. The secretary was instructed to write letters of sympathy to Mrs E. Hughes, Mrs T. Woods and Mrs J. Taylor in their sad bereavement through death of their sons while on active service. Accounts to the amount of £17 11s 3 1/2d were passed for payment. REPORT OF CONVENORS. Miss Usher, convenor of the Sewing Committee, reported various articles being made for the bazaar, also having made and despatched to Auckland the monthly batch of 50 hussifs, also four pairs of slippers made by Mrs R. Moore three pairs, Miss Usher one pair. Miss Webster reported on behalf of Mrs Webb, convenor of the Entertainment Committee (who was unable to attend) that the arrangement for the bazaar was well in hand and everything promised to its being successful.

Miss Webster further reported having received a letter from Mrs Gunson, Mayoress of Auckland, stating her willingness to be present at the bazaar on the first day, also the great pleasure it would give her to open the function for the League. Mrs Baxter, convenor of the Knitting Committee, reported having posted to Auckland two large parcels of knitted comforts consisting of 76 caps, 18 scarves, 23 pairs of socks, 11 belts and 13 pairs of mittens. The convenor applied to the executive for the sum of £11 to purchase wool for working for next month's supply of comforts which are urgently needed by our gallant and brave boys.—The same was granted. The following is a list of donations received :—Mrs J. Ferguson, two pairs socks ; Mrs E. Roose, two scarves ; Mrs Goldsworthy and Mrs Kimber, one cap each ; Mrs Legge, two pair mittens. Workers of Balaclavs Mrs Crum 6, Mrs Wilson (Frankton) 5, Mesdames Hewlett and Thornell 4 each, Mesdames R. Moore, aad Woollett, and Misses Graham, Aida and Ethel Porter 3 each; Mesdames Hooey, Fitness, Bell (Mauku), Robinson, Kimber, W. Blake, and Misses Twidle, Usher, Galloway, L. Laundy, and I. Landon 2 each; Mesdames J. O'Connor, W. T. Jones, Lindsay, Papesch, A. E. Taylor, and Misses Harris, B. Smith, M. Cox, A. Hogan, M. McClune, Doreen and Hazel Blake, Barber, K. and U. Porter (Puni) and E. Robinson, 1 each. Scarves—Miss Lily Laundy, 2; Mesdames J. O'Connor, Cooper, Goldsworthy, Baxter, McArthur, G. Brown and J. Roberts, and Misses A. McNally, E. Carter, Hewlett, R. Roberts and W. Sproule and Master R. Crosbie, one each. Sacks—Mesdames Barter, McWatt (Puni), Porter, Guthrie and McDonald (Aka Aka) and Miss Walsh, 2 pairs each; Misses M. Hay and Barber and Mesdames Shipherd, Tanner, Honeyford, Preston (Puni), Motion, Moore, Elliott and Robinson, one pair each. Cholera belts—Mrs Kimbor, 2; Mesdames Hooey, Moore, Maxwell, Hewlett, Stuart and Wilson (Frankton) and Miss Katie Stuart, one each. Mittens—Mrs Cowperthwaite, 9 pair; Mrs Barter, 2 pair.
