The monthly meeting of the Clevedon Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the Public Hall on tho evening of Saturday, October 7th last. The members present wore Mr C. A. A vote of sympathy to Mr Geo. Atkins on the death of one of his sons, who was killed in action, was passed. The secretary read various correspondence which had passed between the branch and the Defence Department in connection with the parades of the local cadets, the final letter from the Department stating that the branch's wishes would be carried out in every respect," and asking the branch to name the day of the week most suitable for fortnightly parades.—Wednesday was decided upon as the day most suitable. In connection with the Belguim Egg Day it was resolved to leave the arrangements for collecting eggs
in the hands of the sub committees appointed. A copy of the minutes of the last meeting of the Provincial Executive was received. A circular letter from the Provincial office on the behalf of the Women's National Reserve, offering female farm assistants was read and it was resolved to thank the Women's National Reserve through the medium of the Provincial office and state that we would most certainly apply to them for female farm labourers should necessity arise. The following circular letters from Provincial office were read and discussed, viz, " Pedigree cattle to pass the test for tuberculosis at time of sale "; " Charges and arrangements for holding Agricultural Classes organised by the Education Department " ; " Explanation of the National Endowment scheme as at present existing."—Resolved that these letters be received and support given where possible. A resolution was carried to the effect that the auctioneering firms be asked to commence their monthly sales at Clevedon at one o'clock, and advertise that time, as 12 noon is an inconvenient time, and also to ask that they make a special effort to metal their saleyards at Clevedon. | It was resolved that it be suggested to the Provincial Executive that a " bone " week be organised on the lines of the Egg and Bottle week.
