A v:olin constructed throughort of metal, playedw ith a. bow of wire, ;■> <i novelty devised by Joseph Proulx. an American. Ihe instrument has a back of stoel plate, a front- of brass, and sides of Russian iron. It is finely finished and polished, and has a clear, accurate tone, without any sign of scratch, such as is found, in many violins. Mr. Proulx :s a machinist by trade. While working on brass, about four months a<;o, he was seized with the idea of making a metal violin, and has been working on his idea ever since, with this result. The violin lias been shown to many players, and has been pronounced perfect, so far qual ty cf tone is concerned. #
