The date.iixei is Wednesday of next week and the proceedings will tbk) the form of a social and dance, with a mock court at which people " who don't appear to be hard up " will be fine d. Auckland artists have promised to assist and first class dance music is also promised by well known players from the city. A pro-
cession will preambulate the town i headed by the local band and will I proceed to the hall arriving at 8 p m Much fun is promised for both young and old and the evening should prove beuehc al for the League funds. A Red Cross Tea, the organisers of which were Mesdames C. H. Lupton, P. Mellors, W. H. Lee and W. J. Ferguson, was held in the Public Hall last Thursday afternoon under the auspices of the local branch of the Victoria League, and was eminently successful, the attendance being such that the nett proceeds from small donations" at the door amounted to £7. The proceedings were interspersed with musical items and an eloquent address by the Rev W. C. Wood. Touching on matters appertaining to the League, the rev. gentleman said that members who excused themselves from continuing Red Cross work on the plea that articles sent from New Zealand had been wasted should remember that waste was inevitable in connection with war, but that while the war lasted the need for garments such as those made by the League were of the first importance. Waste or no waste, the position was that 50 articles had better be wasted than one soldier should suffer. After a dainty afternoon tea had been served by the Misses Smith, Perry, Druce, Jukes and Thompson, musical items were contributed, pianoforte solos being rendered by MrsLeonaid (Papatoetoe) and Miss Watson; 9ongs, solos by Miss McCormack (Auckland), and a chorus by the Misses Mills, Wylie (2), Goodfellow (2), Watson, Finlayson and Weston (of PapatoetoeMrs Leonard acting as accompanist. Miss D Lovell alto recited. On view ia tho hall was an exhibition of nico warm underclothing, made by members of the League, to be forwardel to " our boys" at the front. At the termination of the proceedings the Rev. Wood returned thanks to Mr A. G. Mabee, who had so kindly decorated the hall, and to those who had provided the musical portion of the programme and to all who had assisted.
