PAPAKURA PATRIOTIC LEAGUE.

The annual meeting of the Patriotic League was held in the Parish Hall last "Wednesday evening, Mr A. Willis presiding over a fair attendance.

The chairman gave an interesting report of the work done during the year. He stated that the sum of £576 13s 4d had passed through the handi of the League since the last annual meeting. Besides subscriptions and donations several amounts had been raised. The Emergency Fund was increased by £4 ( j the proceeds of a plant sale organised by Mrs Sbanaghan and other ladies. Miss Anderson pa : d m£7 the proceeds of a social, while a concert given by the Manurewa Musical Society realised £ll ss. The tJarnival Committee handed over a balance of £l2 2s 1 Id. The Basketball Club raised a bum of £3 3s 5d and a donation of £ls was received from the Tennis Club. The chairman added that the monthly tontribution to the Belgian Fund had been fully maintained. Twenty-five hussifs have been forwarded to the Auckland League every month and the follow ing contributions had been granted, viz, French Red Cross £sl 2s lid, the North Sea Relief Fund £7l 8s 3d, the Serbian Relief Fund £lO, the Soldiers' Gift £l2 10s, while various sums had b?en granted in aid of local distress caused through the war. The carnival in aid of the Soldiers Fund realised the handsome sum of £497, which will be further increased by the sale of a line section of land presented to the Committee.

It was decided to adjourn the appointment of officers and committee until the close of the year in order to avoid having to prepare two balance sheets. A sum of £5 was voted in aid of the Soldiers' Gift Fund and a committee was set up for the purpose of preparing a special Christmas hamper to be Bent to every resident of the district now at the front.

The League, without fuss or noise, is doing a great deal of work for patriotic purposes and a great deal of credit is due to tha executive officers and others, for so ungrudgingly giving their time and labour to this good cause
