CLEVEDON.
A FAREWELL GATHERING. On Friday evening last a farewell was given at Mataitai to LanooCorporal W. F. Gaudy, it being ths last evening of his liual leave befuro going to the I'rout with the 18th reinforcements, 'iha gathering took •he form of a .dance field in the Mataitai School, a tent having been erected for supper. During the evening Mr J. Luke, on behalf of tin Mataitai settlers, presented Corp. Gaudy with a tourists' auto-strop shaving set in pigskin case, as a mark of their appreciation of Lis having volunteered for active service and wished him a speedy and safe return. Corp. Gaudy responded expressing thanks for the gilt and good wishes. He expressed ins regret at having to leave New Zoalami alter so short a sojourn, but hoped to bo back in the district when peace was proclaimed and Germany was a .British Colony. (Laughter and applause) bongs h ere rendered by Mrs Beckett, Mis Mason, and Messrs C. C. Munro and J. A. Gaudy, Mrs Gaudy accompanying. In i-pite of bad roads Clevedon was well represented at the gathering, the evening proving a great success, dancing beicg continued until 2.30 a.m.
