ONEWHERO.

[The agent for the " Pukekoue Times " for Onewhero and district is Mr N. Cole-Baker, from whom copies of the paper will be supplied on order. | On Wednesday last a splendid turnout of settlers assembled in the Public Hall to farewell Corporal Frank Andrews and Piivate Claud Harvey who were home on final leave. The rain held off till most were home and a long programme was enjoyed by all. Many thanks are due to those from Pukekawa and Tuakau, who came to help in giving the boys a send off. They thus do their "little bit." The following ladies officiated at the piano, viz, Mesdames Alexander and Bark and the Misses Bettaand Jones. Songs were given by Mrs Bark aid Messrs Butterworth, Bark, York, Drake, Pirrett, Parsons, Olsen, whilst Mr D. Fulton and Miss Duffin. rendered " Come Back to Erin " as a duet. Special mention must be made of Mr Parsons' original song introducing fanrous local characters and institutions. Becitations by Miss Duffin and Mr J. Fulton were much enjoyed, and speeches were given by Messrs Butterworth, D. Fulton and R. J. Glasgow (chairman). Miss Betts gave a short display of club swinging by special request of tbe 'school boys, who wish to thank her for so kindly acceding. Supper and a dance completed the evening's festivities.

It was agreed at the committee meeting of the local flower show to again hold the exhibition in the early part of December. This will be the fifth annual show. The prccaeds are to go to patriotic purposes. Many are starting in the gardens and keen competition for the Onewhero Cup is expected. Saturday saw about a score of energetic men engaged in clearing the local recreation reserve and good work was done It was a grind lesson in unity, would that all pulled thus together for the public good in all things. The new teacher, Miss Brown, has commenced duty at the Kohonga Maori School.
