Mr F. V. Frazer, fe'.M., holds the next fitting ot the Pukekchs Magistrate's Court on Thursday. A good deal of damage was done to local early potato crops by tbe keen frost that was experienced io Pukekohe last Friday night. Tbe usual monthly meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council takes place to-morrow (Wednesday) evening. The handsome challenge cup presented for competiton between tbe Pukekohe and West End Clubs is now on view in a window at Messrs F. Perkins and Co.'s establishment iti Pukekohe. Ratepayers desiring to sign tbe petition askirg the Pukekohe Borough Council to engage a hydraulic engineer to verify the water scheme as drafted should note that eignaturea should be forthcoming thereto before the petition is presented to the Council to-morrow night. Second-Lieutenants Dunnan and Kidling, who were promoted fiom N.C.O.'a in tin 14th Reinforcements to their present rank and attached to tbe 18. h Heinforcements, were in Pukekohe last week on final leave. Thoy were prior to enlistment officials under the Board of Educaion. l'he Auckl.nd Dairy Produce Committee has fixed tbe wholesale prices ot butter and eggs for tbe we.k ending Septemb.r 21st, as follows-—Farmers' butter, first grad', 111b per lb; fresh egg?, li'd dozen. Parties on the look-out for building sections, either for residential ot investment purposes, can have their wants supplied at the sale ot sited on the old showground in Pukekobe, to be held on the property by Mesars J. T. Stembridge and Co., at 2 p.m. to-morrow. The Frank--lid A. and P. Society are the owners of the land, and easy terms of purchase are offered.
A sensational dividend was paid oat at tbe Avondale Racei last Saturday as the result of the win registered in the Hack Handicap by British Arch, a horse owted by Mr J. D. Kemp, ot Awbitu. Three or four local representatives were "on" the good thing—in a couple of icstances with two tickets apiece. Mr A. Kemp, a bruthir of Mr J. D. Kemp, secured second honours with bis horse Alf Uelaval.
Opportunity of the occasion of the Spring t lower Show in Pukekobe W3B taken last Friday evening to make a presentation of a satety razor to Private W. B. Matthews, a member of the 18tb Reinforcements, who was back iu Pukekobe on final leave. Mr C. K. Lawrie wished the departing poldier a safe return to the Dami ion and handed him the gift. Private A. S. Nicholls was unavoidably absent but a similar presentation for him was duly torwarded. Tbe winner of the competition for th2 most suitable word as tbe trade-mark for the manures manufactured at the new freezing work* at Wcattield is Mr P. L. Goodwin, of Horotiu, whose suggestion of "Marrowbone" was chosen by the judges. 11 communicating to us th 3 result Messrs W. and K. Fletcher Ltd.. pay testimony to the value of the "Pukekobe Times" for advertising purposes, as they say "We had a remarkably good response to our advertisement in your paper for a suggested trade mark."

What is undoubtedly one ot the smartest and ablest musical combinations thst has ever visited New Zealand occupied the boards at the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, last evening, when] Mr Victor Prince's Kevue and Vaudeville Company, direct f(om the Auckland Opera House, commenced tbeir country tour, lhe entertainment provided was exceedingly bright and sparkling, each and every member of the Company possessing abilities far out of the ordinary run. Better kcown in Australia, Mr Prince and hu colleagues art making tbe:r acquaintanc: with New Zealand audiences tor the first time, but the satisfaction with the partormance was so general that future visits to Pukekohe will be eagerly laoked forward to, and their re appearance is certain always ts be warmly welcomed by crowded assemblies. The Rev. H. Bradduck, Hod. Miceiooer of the New Zealand State Schools' Mission, visited Pukekobe and Bucklacd Schorls last weak and bad talks with the pupils. He expre*sei appreciation of the courteous receptions given him by Messrs Flmll and Wily, tbe respective headmasters, and their te'chwg staffs.

At a social and dance tendered to the friends of Private Willie Matthews, of the 18th. Reinforcement*, who was home oo hnal leave, by bis motfcer, Mr* H. H. West, in the Oddfellows' Hall on Wednesday evening last, some 40 couples being present. Musical items were rendered by Mrs F. Rogers, Misses Kennelly, Payne, Rita West and Mes<rs J. Brown, F. Payne, L. Wilson, F. Djncan and Brooks, while Miss Kita West and Msster Cryil Maxwell gave an exhibition of Highland daucing. The pneeedings concluded with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." and before the gathering dispersed Mr Petchell returned thanks on behalf of th's? present to Mrs West for the evening's enjoyment.
Under the rearrangement of military distric's by which the Franklin County now becomes attached to No. 1, Auckland, Group instead of bnng part of No. 4, Waikato Croup, Lieut. A. K. Hatt has keen appointed Area Officer with headquarters at Pukckohe. Lkut. Halt's new sphe*e of control extends from Oiehurga to Merc;r, and he will supervise the training of all units therein, both Territorials anJ Senior Cadets. The effect of the appointment is that Lieut. Hatt retsms tbe commission he gained on the field at Gallipoli, being thus promoted as a member of the Permanent Staff from tfe rank of Warrant OflicerJ
After having b:en a member for the past eight years of the Pukekhoo Postal Staff, lately as senior telephone exchange clerk, Mr Edward Ryan has been promoted to the Auckland G.P.0., where he will be engaged in th 3 mail room. His courtesy as a po-tal official won him the respect of tbe general public. Mr Ryan took great interest in sporting matters in Pukekohe, being bon. secretary of tbe Pukekohe Rugby Union as well as a membe- of tbe Pukekohe Hockey Club and Puni Tennis Club. Prior to Mr Ryan's departure for Auckland yesterday, Mr W. Coster, postmaster, on bebalt of the local postal staff, presented him with an electrc-pla'ed sbaving-cutfit, and in congratulating Mr Ryan on his promotion expressed the regret of his colleagues on losing him from tbeir midst.
