BUCKLAND.

WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE. The monthly meeting of the Buckland branch of the <Women's Patriotic League held in the hall on Thursday of last week. Mrs Wily and Mrs McNally, delegates to conference held in Auckland 131st August, reported <n work done there.

The following is the list of work received during July and August, viz. : Mrs McNally, 17 pairs socks ; Mrs McKean and Mrs Driver, 13 pairs each ; Mrs Hairis, 8 pairs ; Mrs Jesser, 4 pairs; Mrs J. K. Hamilton, 3 pairs ; Mrs Johnston, Miss Johnston, Mrs J. Barber, Mrs H. Barber, 2 pairs each; Mrs Murray, Mrs Milroy, Miss L. Johnson, 1 pair each; Miss Bagnall, 2 caps ; Mrs Newton, 2 muttlers ; Mrs Davy and Mrs King, one muffler each. Donated : Miss L. Johnston, 2 pairs socks, 2 caps, and one pair mittens; Mrs Delaney, one parcel clothing. The cash received for Wool Fund during July and August is: Mis Jamieson, 10s; Mrs J. K. Hamilton, 9s; Mrs n. Barber, Mrs Grahim, 7s 6d each ; Mrs J. One of the most successful entertainments staged in the district took place on Tuesday evening last, when through the efforts of Miss G. Bagnail the dialogue "No Followers Allowed" was produced by local amateurs, musical items also being rendered. A highly satisfactory result was obtained, the nett proceeds, which are to be donated to the Auckland branch of the Navy League Committee, being £l3. The leading role 3 were played by Miss Bagnail ("Mrs Bumpus"), Mr F. Bouster ("Mr Bumpus" and Miss L.Allan ("The Cook"). The following ladies took the parts of " Bumpus' " daughters : Misses G. Neal, L. Johnson, Johnson (Harrisville), M. Davy, 11. and C. Home ; ind servants, Misses K. Allan, A. Avery and I Wright. Mr Walter Jefferis took the part of "Charlie Jones" and Mr Tom Walker that of " Peter Jobbery, M.P." Considerable assistance towards the production was given by Mr Souster, the scenery used being kindly lent and arranged by him. Musical items were rendered as follows: Quartette, Misses Allan and Bagnail and Messrs Hill and Smith; solos by Mrs McAnally, Miss Bagnall and Miss Cardno (Mercer) and Messrs L. Bullock, T. Walker, A. Gummer and 0. Todd, and songs by school children trained by Misses L. Allan and G. Bagnall. On behalf of the promoters Mr H. H. D. Wily returned thanks, at the conclusion of the performance, to all those who had assisted the effort. On Thursday evening the annual meeting of the Buckland creamery suppliers was held in the hall, with a good attendance. Mr H. E. Facey, managing director, gave an interesting address on tbe work of tbe New Zealand Dairy Association for the past season, and lully explained the various alterations that bave been made :n the system of payments for butter-fat. He also referred to the Jarge increase in the local supply, whicb gave every promise of being much larger this season. A general expression of satisfaction with tbe results ot last saason and continued coniidence in the New Zealand Dairy Association and thanks to Mr Facey fur bis address was given elfect to by resolution which was cariied unanimously. The supply of cream is going up rapidly, being now about 220 gallons daily.
