CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR SOLDIERS.
A Pukekohe Appeal A special appeal to provide a Christmas parcel for " the lads " at the front will be made during the month by the Pukekohe branch of the Women's Patriotic League. It is proposed to pack in small boxes 5s worth of suitable articles, which will reach the men for Christinas, thus showing that although "we keep the home fires burning " we do not forget those who are nobly serving the ciuse in a foreign land. Those who aie already subscribers to the Dominion Gift Fund, if they wish 10 send a Christmas box, are only asked to add 2s 6d to their October contribution, while for noncontributors the subscription for the Christmas box will be ss.
A special effort will be made to send Christmas parcels to New Zmland soldiers hell p isoners of war by enemy nations wherever possible. Any donations of New Zealand post cards will be acceptable, as it is intended giving each "boy" a glimpse of home in this way. The box will contain one pillow, one pair of socks, one towel, two handkerchiefs, one tin of milk, one tin of fish (salmon or herrings), one tin of tobacco, one pair of laces and one post card. It may be mentioned that if funds will permit a tin of sweets (candy or chocolate) will also be enclosed in each box.
A sample box is on view in the window of Mr W. T. Jones' saddler shop, and we feel sure it will be the means of sending many similar boxes to the firing line.
