BOMBAY.
PROSPECTING FOR WATER. A fiud of water is recorded on Mr A. Best's farm at Bombay, the same being the result of boring operations carried out by Mr H. Stone, and it is all the more noteworthy since previous efforts to locate water in Bombay have proved unsuccesful. The site on which the bore was made was some years ago recommended by the Rev. H. Mason as likely to furnish satisfactory results but it is only recently that work to that end was undertaken. Rock was struck at 22ft and thereafter very hard substance had to be penetrated, progress at times being only at the rate of two inches per day, until at a depth of 156 ft a substantial flow of water rewarded efforts. Tests have given a return of 200 gallons of water per hour being available.
