"BE GLAD."
Air: "Dully Gray.", There is mourniug iu the land, day by day, For the heroes that have passed away; But mothers, why be sad ? Should you not be rather glad That yours sons are making history every day. Hear tbe thunder of their guns, in the fray, See, the Britons of the South lead the way On Romani's sandy dun. Turk and savage, brutal Hun, See, they have got them on the run, so be gay. i mmus Then hurrah for the lads of New Z3aland, The boys who have answered the call; God bless the mothers, wives and sisters Who have given their all in all. Three groans for the shirkers who funked it And would not join in the fray. Three cheers for the lads of New Zealand, Now-Hip! Hip! Hip! Hurrah! They are living in your hearts, mothers, dear, And your white souled lads, they know not fear. For to live iu hearts they love, With their God in Heaven above Is not to die, so why drop a tear ? They are lighting at the front for your sake, As all they hold most dear is at stake. When the Empire called out Come ! Would you have them stop at home ? No ! Mothers, never! Not for any sake. <uouus — Then hurrah for (Written on receiving word that my dear son, F. W. McLarin, was dangerously wounded at the Batlle of Roinani, in Egypt, on the 9th August.—J. W. McLarix, senr., Kaiuui Estate, Patumahoe)
