DRURY

LIVED AND DIED ALONE. A FKENCHMAN OF bOOD BIKTH. Living alone in a whare on his section about a mile out of Drury on the Papakura road a retired farmer, nanned Benri Casanbon, aged 82 ard a Frenchman by birth, pasted away—probaly in his sleepin tre early Dart ol this week. Information was conveyed to Constable Waugb on Wednesday afternoon that the veteran had not been seen for a day or two and on the Constable proceeding in the evening to the whare he found him Ijinsr dead in fcerl. An inquest en the body was held yesterday at the Hotel by the District Coroner, Mr Cecil Rosfll >y, evidence given by Dr Brookfitld ot Papakura, that death probably occurred about Monday. Dr Broikri Id added that he attended the rteceas:d «-ome months back when he found him suffering from heart trouble. The cause of death in the Doctor's opinion was heart tailurr. A verdict to that effect was returned by the Coroner, whi under tte circumstances considered a post-mortem examination unnecessary. Documents discovered by tha police among the deceased's effec's go to prove that be was a member of a family of hi«h standing in France, in which country some of his relatives hold important positions. A Post Ofhc3 Savings Banks book shows that he had an amount of close upon £BO to oh credit, whilst an "1.F.D." (interest on fixed deposit) entry appearing therein of £i7 10s for some successive years is indicative that he had a subßtantiil sum on fixed deposit, his estate being worth at least £SOO. In the deceasad's whare Constable Waugh has also found a will, signed but not "witnessed," leaving his property to certain relatives in France, and dirceting that his estate should be administered by the Public Trustee. The police are temporarily in charge of the deceased's belongings, but tee same will be handed over to the Public Trustee.
