CLEVEDON.
WAIROA ROAD BOARD. The postponed monthly meeting of the Wairoa Ro*d Board was held at Clevedon on Moniay, the members present being Messrs A. D. Bell (chairman), J. Luke, J. McConaugby anf W,' Duder, together with the *ijß*Mr A. E. Bailey. NEW ROAD PROJECT A letter was read from the Papakura Valley Road Board suggesting that the Board should appoint a committee to work in conjunction with their Board with a view of reaching a finality in connection with the proposed road to connect Clevedon with Takanini.—The chairman and Messrs Luke and McConaughey were appointed to represent the Board. NATIVE LANDS. The clerk was instructed to ascertain particulars of Maori property on which no rates had been paid, with a-view of securing payment therefrom. MISCETIANBOUS. Mr J. McCona/ghey was empowered to complete arrangements with the settlers on Hewlin's line whereby the road could be formed. It was reported that the landing stage at Clevedon wharf was. Btrained.-It was decided to re-deck it. ... Arrangements in connection with the proposed deviation through Mr J. Quinn's property on .Maetaitai road were reported by Mr J. Luke to be progressing satisfactorily. The matter of a proposed memorial for the •« boys " who have left the - district for the front was discussed, but was deferred for further consideration. The chairman reported the arrangements he had made in connection with the proposed pound at Ardmore, and his action was approved. An application for assistance to the Serbian Relief Fund was considered, and it wasdeoided to donate £lO.
Members reported at Monday's meeting of the Koad Board that the recent stormy weather had rendered the roads in a worse condition than they had been in for many years. Building operations in the district am bmk. A fine bungalow cottage baa been completed to the order of Miss Thorpe, while the Presbyterian Mtnse is fast nearing completion. Since undergoing an operation in an Auckland hospital, Mr Cnspe, the local schoolmaster, is making fair progress towards recovery. Gunner Charles William Mann, who died from wounds in France on July 31st, was the son of Mr and Mrs W. Mann, ot Devonport, where he was born in 1891. He lived in Clevedon for some 15 years, and in his younger data attended the Clevedon School. Me waa present at the at Uallipoli. where he served nearly six months, until be was invalided to Malta. He then returned to Egpyt, and was amongst the first of the New Zealanders to reach France. His brother, Edgar Mann, is serving with the Eleventh Reinforcements. An in memoriam service will be held in All Saints' Church next Sunday evening in memory of the late Sergt. M. L. Waters. The service will be taken by the Vicar, the Kev. W. VJ. Wood.
