Tenders arc intived by the Waikato Co-oparative Dairy Company for the cartage o f . cream from Pokeno district. Particulars will be found in our advt. in this issue. The casualty list issued on Wednesday last by the Defence Dapartment includes among "Men reported wounded" the names of Private Walter Kunciman, son ot Mrs Kunciman, of West Mauku, and Private Herbert Cecil Butter, son of Mr W. K. Butter, late of Pukekohe, and now of Cambridge. The Directors of the Waikato Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd, have decided not only to re-instate every married man going on active service, but to insure each man for £SOO keeping all the premiums paid up until bis return. In a replace advt. in this issue Messrs Gallagher and Howe, proprietors of the l'ukekohe Motor Garage, intorm farmers and motor car owners that having purchased a big stock of Kalif Motor Spirit they are able to sell the same at reduced" rates. The schedules are now ready for the third annual Bulo and Spring Flower Show to be held in the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, on September 14th and 15th, under the auspices ot St. James' Presbyterian Church. Copies are obtainable of Mr James Boulston, the hon. secretary. Several new classes figure in the schedule lor the first time. Official notice is given in our advertising columns that, under the Military Service Act, IUI6, it is intended to proclaim the enrolment of the Expeditionary Force Reserve on September Ist and that every man of military age (viz ~ between the ages of 20 and 4(3) must comply wit 11 the regulations. Mr Charles Boyd, of tbe Education Department, Wellington, who has beeo in Auckland, called in at Pukekohe to-Jay on his return south. The Auckland Dairy Produce Committee has fixed the wholeisle prices of butter and eggs for tbe coming week as follows:—Farmers' butter, first grade, lid per lb; fresh eggs, Is per dozen. At the Premier Hall to-night there will be a re-ssreeninfr <>f ihe fit e series of Naval pictures " Friend and Foe on the high seas." This film includes British, French and German Fleets in port and at sea. Mrs Kobert Fits'as, of Pukekohe, has sustained a severe bereavement in the death of her mother, Mrs Margaret Boyd, who passed away on Monday list. The deceased lady was 90 years of agr. The grazing rights for a period of one year of the new oho *srrounds at Pukekohe are to be submitted to auction by Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons at their Pukekone seleyards ,on Monday njxt at 1 p.n. For particulars ice advt. Tbe following letter, dated Gth July, has been received by Miss Spedding, Hon. Secretary, Auckland Women's Patriotic League, from Major J. T. Watson, Officer Commanding N.Z.E.F. Headquarters, Cairo, in connection with tbe first consignment of Dominion Gift goods forwarded by the League to our soldiers in Egpyt:—"The consignment of 100 cases of gift goods, despatched from New Zealand on April Ist. duly arrived in Egpyt, and the contents have been distributed as directed by the Officer Commanding New Zealand Gifts Section. The action of your League in forwarding these most acceptable parcel] is much appreciated." The death occurred in the Mena private hospital, Auckland, on Wednesday, of Mr William Pollock, son of Mr Thomas Pollock, of Pukekohe. The deceased, who was 52 jears of age. met with an accident at the Puni creamery some three years ago and had been an invalid ever since. In his younger days he took part in Rugby football, being at the one time president of both the Franklin Rugby Union and of tbe Pukekohe Rugby Football Club. He leaves a widow and five young children to whom sincere sympathy is extended in their severe bereavement. The funeral took place to-day at the Pukekohe cemetery and was largely attended, members of the Pukekohe Masonic Lodge, of which the late Mr Pollock was a member, being present in regalia.
The matter of the establishment of a night-soil depot near the Paerata station by Mr Hawkins, contractor for the Pukekohe Borough Council, again received attention at the meeting of the Karaka Koad Board on the 12th mat, the clerk, Mr H. E. tilaßson, reading a copy of a letter which he bad sent ro Mr Hawkins informing him of the previous resolution of the Board not to allow what was proposed. A letter was received from the Board's solicitors, Messrs Buddie. Richmond and Buddie, stating that in their opinion the Board bad the power ot refusing consent for the depot, and also that any resident hid the right of proceeding by injunction if the depot could be shown to be a nuisance.—ft was decided, bowever, that the funds of the Board did not permit of litigation being entered upon and that any legal action should be left for private residents to institute.
