MANUREWA.

An indication that values aro being maintained for land at Manurewa is afforded by the recent sale of two sections of about four acres each on Hill Road at the rate of £2OO or theroabouts per acre. There is a strong demand for residences, say five or six rooms, at Manurewa. It is a pity that residents holding sections in and around the station do not build for thereby they wonld be both advancing the district and securing a revenue. Within two miles of the station three subdivisions of property, which are now being effected, will make available for close settlement somo 800 acres Some miles of roading will be undertaken shortly and Hill Road is to be extended to meet the Valley Road at a point near the Papakura Valley and Ranfurly Road deviation.

The Methodist Church anniversary took place on Sunday, August the 6th inst. Following on the Sunday services a concert was held in the Church on Wednesday night, August 9th, when there was a good attendance over which the Rev. Potter presided. Choruses were rendered by the choir. Miss Lovell recited in her usual able style the " Prince " and Mr 8. O'Hara, of Otahuhu, recited " The Church Choir." The Home childien contributed several fine items in " The Bell," " Joe and Me," '« The Sea is Britian's Glory," and " Help Yourself." Miss F. Freshney sang " Sing me the Rotary," and Mis Craig and Mr Freshney " Let us all a Maying go " and Mr Burton "The Old Campaigner." Tho Rev. Sladc, of Otahuhu, gave a stirring address on Church work. A feature of tho evening was tho presentation of a wristlet gold watch to Miss M. Craig, the organist. Miss Craig has held this position for the past nine years and the presentation was made as a slight acknowledgment of her services.

Old residents say that not for very many years has the Papakura Valley Road been in such a deplorably bad state. In many places the metal has vanished and the ruts \re working down into the soft. Certainly the Manukau County Council should give this road more attention. Regarding the Government subsidy to the loan of £SOO for the formation of Ranfurly Road tho Minister of Public Works has promised to meet the Papakura Road Board in Auckland early next month to go into this and other matters.

Local "' boys " of tho 17th Reinforcements in the district on iinal leave are D. Woods, Kearney, H. ana A. Lupton, J. Freshnev and T. King.
