PUKEKOHE HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

Show Suspended Fop Year. At the aonaal meeting of the Pakekobe District Horticultural Society hell on Wednesday last m tbe Borough Council Chambers, the president, Ur C. H. Wake, in tbe chair, it was decided to suspend for a year tbe Society's epring and autumn Shows, the Committee, however, being empowered to arrange tbe latter fixture in thj event of tbe war coming to a conclusion beforehand. The motion, relative to the subject, was moved bv Mr A. B. Barter, who poiuted out that with so many calla beiog made on the public for patriotic purposes tbe Society's subscription list would naturally suffer. Mr J. B. Brown seconded, remarking that people would have no heart in the Show whilst the war continued. The Kev. 8. Nixon hoped that tbe effect of tbe resolution would not be that the Society would become detucct, as the local gardens were testimony that tbe work ot the Society had not been in vain, Referring to tbe forthcoming Spring Show under tfce auspices of St. James' Presbyterian Church, Mr Barter suggested that tbe circumstances were different to tbuse of the Society as the workera on behalf of their Church would naturally put forward greater efforts than could be expected trom | workers for the Society. The motion was then agreed to. The balance sheet was presented, and showed that the receipts totalled £lll 4s sd, tbe principal items being members' fees £24 10j, payments by advertisers £25 2s 6d, entrance fees Autumn Show £8 Ss 3d, d"or money Autumn Show £ll 7s 6a.
