MANUREWA.
Sergeant-Major Boate, who returned with the last batch of invalids from England last Friday and who has this week been visiting friends in Manurewa, was wounded on three occasions during the Gallipoli operations. Whilst in London, after having been sent to England for medical treatment, he had the novel experience of seeing his name posted up at the Records Office among the " killed " and on informing an official of the Department of the error he was jocularly told that he was " officially dead " and therefore should not bo in the building. However, tho mistako was soon rectified. Sergeant-Major Boate is tho proud possessor of a Distinguished Conduct Medal, which ho won for gallant service on the field, that trophy being supplemented by another medal, known as " M.M," piesented him by the President of France in recognition of his deeds.
