A meeting of the locil branch of the Farmerb' Union was held in the Hall on Saturday night, when a fair number of members were present A large amount of correspondence was dealt with relating to the rfquest for a post office and other local matter?, Mr W. Jeffeiies, the delegate to the annual conference, gave an interesting review of the proceedings, and advised as many members as possible to attend future conferences, as th*y would then get a better idea what the Onion was doing for the farming community The members then took part in a'debate on War Taxes, and on the benefits of co-operation. On Sunday night iu the Methodist Church the Bev S. Nixon, of Pukekohe, made the British Navy the subject of his serm< n, the collection being in aid of the Navy Fund. Owing to the wet night the attendance was not as large as it would have been under better weather conditions. The preacher emphasised the point that our great naval leaders from the days of Sir Francis Drake down to the present time, had been guided by strong religious convictions.

A meeting of the Parliamentary Union was held on Monday night when there was an average attendance. Alter a number of questions had been asked and answered the Becond Beading of the Land Act Amending Bill was goi>e on with, the chief points of which are to provide •■the light of Freehold or Optional Lease, in place of land nationalization passed by the late Government. The question was well debated, especially by inembeis of tbe Opposition, who, in mo.'t cases, spoke up to the time limit. This debate will be continued at the next meeting in a fortnight's time.
