See also page 1. Under tha auspices of the Women's Patriotic League a successtul euchre tournament, followed by a dancp, was held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening of last week. Seventeen tables were in use by the card players, all arrangements for tbe games being well carried out by Mr Lewis. Pr zes were awarded as follows, viz : First piize, ladies, Mrs Lindner; gents, Private O. Lindner; consolation prize, Mrs Deeble and gentleman's consolation prize, Mr Moncur. Atter supper, dancing was indulged n to mrsic supplied by the Misses M. Gerahgty and C. Hodgeon and Mr L. Stevenson, Mr .W. Collins proving an efficient M,C. The proceeds cf the gathering amounted to £5 12s. During the evening tbe quarterly financial statement was read, sho/ing receipts totalling £45 9s 7d and expenditure £35 15s 7d, having a credit balance of £9 349. A Ked Cross Tea was given by tha Women's Patriotic League on Wedresday afternocn Mrs (Dr) Parkes, of Auckland, beina present and delivering an address nn "aid to our wounded." Her remarks were listened to with great interest by a large company of 1-idif s. Musical items were rendered by Miss M. Geraghty, pianoforte solo; Mies Foulkeu, sons: Mrs Pilkington, song; Mips L. McGaban, piancforte solo; whilst Miss E. Patton gave a recitation and Rev. J. B. Suckling a monolouge. The Rev. L. Foulkes returned thanks to the visitor in a happy little sprech. Afternoon tea was handed round, and a collectrn taken np realised £5 Is 9d. Corporal J. Englifh, Instructional Staff, Home Service Sec ion, who is now in this district, leaves tonight lor Awapuni Camp, Falmerston North, where he has charge of 54 men, and then for Wellington, wherefrom he anticipates be will be ordsred, temporarily, to Featherston Camp. A special duty that he was entrusted wi'h c'urirg the last few e!ays was the charge, during removal from Wellington to to Epsom Convalescent Heme for further t'eatment of a returned i offic r.
