DRURY
FANCY DRESS BALL. One of the most successful events of the kind held in the district took place in the Drury Public Hall on Friday evening, June 30th, in the form of ii patriotic plain and fancy dress ball. Some 70 couples occupied the tloor, and there was also a large attendance of onlookers. The costumes were most attractive. The piize offered for the best lady's fancy drf ss was won by Miss Jessie Blake (Gipsy Queen), whilst Mr McCabe (Ulown) secured the award among the men. Others attired in fancy costume included:— Miss Hamilton (New Zealand), Miss Annie Hamilton (Belgian Girl), Miss Churches (Sailor Girl), Miss Elsie Churches (Trellis), Miss Burden (Chinese), Miss Sutherland (Japanese Girl), Miss Cossey France), Miss Flay (Sui Uower), Miss Lilly Perry (Scotch Lassie), Miss Dorice Perry (United France and England), Miss Homewood (Rf flection), Miss Norah Girdwood (Tambourine Girl) ; Messrs Wallace Bremner (Highlander), Perry Mephistoph'les), Evans (Anglican Cowboy), Webster Mexican Cowboy), Churches (Old Man), Vesty (John Bull), Swan (Jockey), Codlin (Indian), Mills (Geisha Court Dress). The secretarial duties were most efficiently carried out by Mr James Perry, and Messrs J. A. Hill and J. Appleby proved exceedingly able M.C.'s.
The prizes won by Mr McCabe and Miss Jessie Blake will bo presented at the next patriotic dance on Friday, the 21st iust.
