CLEVEDON.
As from the beginning of next month the Wairoa butter factory wi!l pass into the possession and be controlled by the New Zealand Dairy Association, whose interests will be looked after by Mr J. A. Blake of the Pukekohe butter factory, who has been appointed manager. The store that has been run in conjunction with ' the factory is to be closed but only with a few exceptions, it is understood, will the staff be altered. After sponding his final leave of 17 days at home with his people Lance-Corporal John S. Paton returned to duty with the 15th Keinforcemenis on Monday last. Mr Donald McKenzie who sold his sheep farm at Otaua quite lately has decided to lead a retired life in Clevedon, where a handsome fiveroomed dwelling is being erected adjacent to the Public Hall to his order by Mr Kemp. For the purpose of confirming the resolution, whereby the freights and passenger fares on the Clevedon Steam Navigation Company's steamers will be raised from ?s per ton to 9s for general merchandise and 2s to 2s 6d for single fares and 3s to 4 s for returns a meeting has been convened to be held in Auckland. The increased rates have been decided on in order to meet the demands of the crews employed on the company's steamers for increased wages. The dairying property carried on un'il recently by Mr Gibbs and situated on the Ness Valley .Road has been purchased by Mr C. Aitchison. !
A very tine mob of draught horses sold by Messrs A. Bell and A. McNicoll to a "Waikato dealer passed through the district on their way to Papakura on Monday last and from Papakura they were railed to their destination.
At a pleasant afternoon hold in the Public Hall last week for the purpose of welcoming the Kev and Mrs Jacobson back to the district alter their marriage Mr Fawcett, acting ou behalf of the Presbyterian community, presented them with a handsome fancy table and easy cbair. The rev. gentleman suitably responded .
