MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
Monthly Meeting.
The usual mon.hly meeting of the above authority was held on Tuesday last at the Council's offices in Auckland, Mr A. Bell presiding in the absence of the chairman (Mr H. R. McKenzie). Other members present were Messis A. Hattaway, J. Bryant, F. Brownhill and A. Muir, together with the clerk (MiBell) and the foreman of works (Mr C. Dixon)
It was agreed to alter the general rate of id in the £ proposed to be struck iu the Papakura riding to g 1, and the following other general rates were struck, viz , Wairoa outlying l]d, Maraetai district j'-d and VVairoa
Ihe Public Works Department advised that the application for £2OO for the Creamery bridge, Wairoa, was being considered by the Head Office.
Mr A. Cambridge applied for a progress payment as ho had completed the contract for clearing the Orere-Sand Spit road, and wanted to pay his men.—lt was re solved to comply with the request. Cm the clerk reporting that one of the settleis had by mistake paid his share towards the cost of work on the Orere road to the Franklin County Couucil it was decided to apply to that authority for the moucy, and, further, for £IOO as part payment of the rates collected by the same body iu the Wairoa outlying, which has since been trausfeired to Manukau County. Au extract from the Gazette, showing that the Council had been appointed an authority to register motor cars, with the letters "MU,'' was forwarded by the Department of Internal Affairs.
Mr P. A Nield, Gieat South road, Manurewa, agtiu communicated with the Council in respect to a proposed crossing, and suggested that as he had piped the froLtige to the property a year ago. wiih pipes recommended by the Council's foreman, thereby completing his shaiv. the Council should make the crossing to yards which he was further prepared to assist by helping to defray the cost. He fflso reminded the Council that nothing had been attempted at the frontages to his barber's and blacksmith's shop, where water laid through the Council's operations,—The foreman remarked that the frontages to the properties were not interfered with, but that the road had been formed —Mr Muir and the foreman were deputed to confer with applicant in the matter.
In regard to an application from the Manurewa Town Board for permission to enforce the Manukau County by-laws and to collect all fees in the Town Board district it was decided to comply with the roquest conditionally on the Bard only taking 25 per cent of all fees collected.
Acting on behalf of Mr Win Wedding, of Alfriston, Messrs Devore and Prendergast, lodged a protest against the proposed Special Order, to give the Wairoa Road Board jurisdiction over drains in the Wairoa Road Board District. The chaiinian poiuted out that Mr Wedding was not a ratepayer iu the Wairoa riding. He also considered that the Board as a whole could attend to the matter of draining better than one representative of the Couucil.
It was agreed to pay royalty on 25 yards of tneta! taken from Kemptm's quarry by the Papakura Valley Road Board for tli9 Manurewa Brookby road. The foremau reported as follows, i.e., Papakura riding: Metal from the gaol will be necessary to maintain the new work at Walter's Coiner, Takanini, aud it will ba ncjessary to remove the pines on Mr Carter's property beyond the cornor as they aro keeping the road wot and dangerous. Wairoa riding: A few loads of metal aro necessary for the Ness Valley road. The crushing plant lias completed 2UO yards for Weymouth road.
