PAPAKURA.

A "judgment by dcfayH" and tbe issue of a prohibition order constituted the only business at xbc Magistrate's Court yesterday on tbe civil and police cause list \respectively. A license to set up in business as a land ard estate agent waa granted to Mr Llewellyn J. Mill* at tbe Magistrate's Conn yesterdsv by Mr Frazsr, S.M. Mr Mills has opened business in the new building opposite tbe Pist Office in the Great South rosd. The transfer of Privates W. Richardson and H. Lever from the Infantry Section of tbe 18th Re* inforcements to tbe Machine Gun ■Section of tbe same body has been made.

Tbe usual monthly docation of £9 to tbe Belgian Fund, 25 hus3i!s and £3 5s for gifts for our soldiers, were forwarded ast week to Auckland by tbe Papakuta Patriotic Society. There are no less than seventeen naturalised and five unnaturaiised Austrians resident ot the district reporting themselves to Constable Wangh to conform with the war regulations. Tbe Kifle Club is now a flourishing body. On Sunday a parade held in tbe Railway Reserve was attend; d by twenty-one. members, who received very valuable instruction in rkirmishirg, advancing and retiring. Thanks to the energy ot the President, Mr U. W. Jones, quite a number of trophies have been pre* sented to the Club for shooting competitions, and on Saturday next tte first of the series will be fired.
