WAR OFFICE METHODS.
It is alleged that not long ago the French military authorities expressed a desire to award a decoration to ?,0 British non-coms, and privates for bravery in the field. When the detachment of heroes paraded before General Joffre he was somewhat surprised to note that it numbered 35. However, he was too polite to raise any objection, and the ceremony proceeded. The fact was afterwards brought out— though not so far communicated to the French military authorities—that our own War Office had inadvertently sent torward instead of the men to be decorated' .a hatch that had been scheduled for vaccination.
