WAIKATO RIVER INSPECTION.

At the ordinary monthly Hireling of the Waikato Kivtr Boani held last Sturday in the Board's cilices at Mercer, the chairman, Mr A.40. C. Glass, drew attentiun to «n announcement made in last Fiiday'B issue ot this paper to the eifect that Mr Ashley Hur.ter had completed his inspection of the Waikato river and ita tributaries and that his report would shortly be iesued. Mr Glass stated that in consequence of a previous notification in the "Times" that •Mr Ashley Hunter had been appointed to make an inspection of the river he communicated with the Minister for Marine, the Hon. Dr McNab. protesting against the appointment on the ground that Mr Hunter had on a former occasion been engaged in acting for interested parties io opposition to the Board and that he practically represented the same interests again. Mr Glass proceeded to read the following telegram he received, in reply to hia communication, from Dr McNab, viz., "The Marine Department knows nothing of Mr Ashley Huntet's inspection of the Waikato river." Mr Glass went on to say that it seemed an extraordinary thing that Mr Ashley Hunter should have carried out an inspection of the river without the knowledge of the Minister of Marine, and it was both discourteous and an insult to the Board that he should have made the inspection and have viewed the Board's woiks without any notification of his appointment or of his visit being sent to the Board. It was resolved to wire to the Minister for Marine reminding him ot his former telegram and asking him if he could give any lnformation as to authority given for an inspection by Mr Aahlev Hunter and protesting for reasons previously furnished to the Minister against any report from him being accepted.
