CLEVEDON.

WAIROA ROAD BOARD. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wairoa Road Board was held in the Board office last Monday afternoon. Present: Messrs A. D. Bell (chairman), J. Luke, J. McConaughy, H. Walsh and Wm. Duder, and the clerk (Mr A. E. Bailey). OI.D WAIROA ROAD. It was resolved to call tenders for ploughing, forming and grading the old Wairoa road, Papakura. MEMORIAL. The matter of the erection of a memorial to fallen soldiers having been referred back to the Board, the clerk was instrucied to obtain estimates and particulars of the cost of a lamp and base cr lamp and drinking trough. KAl'fcS. Mr A. D. Bell moved to strike a ;;d rate on the capital value over the manuring in this case, the mixture whole district. Mr H. Walsh seconded, and the motion was carried unanimously

Mr Duder brought forward a coinplaint that a survey over two miles in length was being tiken over the hill at the back of the powder magazine by the Roads and Budges Department, instead of tli c m keeping to the Beach load, about halr-a-mile in length, to connect the two pieces pieces of road. Mr Duder mentioned that the road over the hill would cost over £IOOO aud would not be of much use when made. The Beach road, which was level when made, could be foimed up aud graded for £3OO. It was resolved that the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, member (f the district, should be written to aud reminded of the promise he made to the settlers to keep the road open round the Beach and also to inform him that the Roads and Bridges Department were taking the road over the hill. The chairman was also requested to bring the matter before the notice of the Mauukcu County Council. DKAIVAt'E 01' CREEKS. The Board's solicitors sent their opinion re the Board's power to compel owners and occupiers to clear the growth out of their creeks.—lt was resolved that the Board's solicitors be requested to take the necessary steps to have a proclamation drawn out for presentation to the Governor-in-Council, vesting in the Wairoa Road Board tli<j power to compel the cleaning out of the creeks in the district. NOXIOUS WKEHS. The " monthly worry " of the noxious weeds on the roads was again brought forward aud it was unanimously resolved that the names of those occupiers of land who had had notices sent to them to clear their road frontages and had not done so, should be sent to the Board's solicitors for summary proceedings to be taken. I IXAXCK. Accounts amounting to £lO2 were passed for payment. BUTTER FACTORY'S FUTURE. A well attended and representative meeting of suppliers of the Clevedon Butter Factory was held on Saturpay last in the Clevedon l'ublic Hall, when Mr H. E. Pacey, Managing Director of the N.Z. Dairy Association, attended and explained arrangements made with the Executive of the late Mr J. McKnight for the Association to take over the factory. The majority of those present signified approval of the arrangements and guaranteed their cows for supply. It was arranged that cream and not milk should in future be delivered at the factory by all suppliers.

One of the oldest settlers of Whakatiri, Clevedon. Mr Peter Clow, died en Juue Ist. He was

born at Whakatiri '>l years ago, and was about live years old wbeu his father, the late Mr William Clow, of Papakura, w.is obliged to take refuge up tho Wuiroa River, owing to the outbreak of the Maori war. lie married Miss Bentley, of Hunua, and returned 2- years ago with his wife aud family to Whakatiri. His eldest son is now on active service.
