Monthly Meeting.

The usual monthly meeting of the above-mentioned authority was held on Tuesday last. Present : Messrs Dynes Fulton (chairman), H. B. Free, H. Craig, W. Straban, J. Pirret, W. Glasgow and Captain Ryder, together with the clerk, Mr A. fl. Tapper. VOTE OF CONDOLENCE.

Previous to aDy general business being transacted, the chairman moved that in view of the loss Mr Bollard, the member for that district, bad sustained in the death of his second son a message of sympathy should be conveyed to Mr and Mrs Bollard and family.—lhe motion was carried, members upstanding. HENDERSON'S ROAD.

The Franklin County Council notified the Board that in consequence of the County Engineer, Mr McArthur, having reported at the last monthly meeting of that authority, that the road on Henderson's Estate had been formed in accordance with plans (submitted by Mr Lockie Gannon previously approved it was resolved unanimously to accept dedication thereof. The chairman suggested that as the Board had no details in respect to the matter other than those contained in the Council's communication a deputation should be appointed to wait on the Council to ascertain further information.

Mr Free: They cannot legally dedicate the road if they have not recorded a minute to tbe effect that they had passed the plans in question.

On Mr Firret's proposal, seconded by Mr Free, the chairman and Messrs Kyder, Glasgow and Craig were deputed to wait on the Council in respect to the matter. Mr Craig considered that Mr Henderson should be consulted first with a view of ascertaining the amount of metal, if any, he would be prepared to put on the front portion of the road. The chairman said that he had it on good information that Mr Henderson would not put any metal on the road. Mr Strahan contended that if it was not compulsory for Mr Henderson to metal the road he should not be requested to metal it. Captain Ejder was of the opinion that if the Board had to metal the road it would come heavy on the the ratepayers, but Mr Craig suggested that the Board could defer

the matter of metalling the road until the ratepayers in the vicinity waited 011 the Board with a request that a special rating area should be defined with a view of having a special rate struck to defray the cost.

The chairman claimed that the Council could not prove that the plans and specifications for the whole of the road had been submitted to the Council before the Town Board came into power. Personally, he said, he never saw the plans of the portion of the road in dispute submitted to the Council when he was a member thereof.

THE QUARRYING CONTRACT. Mr H. Isherwood waitod on the Board and submitted a difficulty that lie was confronted with at the Board's quarry wherefrom he was eugaged m setting out 2000 yards of metal to the order of the Board. He suggested that as he had worked right up to the line of the proposed road, and as the Board would not allow him to proceed by taking metal from the i'aco of the quarry, the only remaining outlet was in the vicinity of the creek which could not be worked at the same price per yard. He therefore suggested that the contract should be cancelled and fresh tenders called. He would be prepared, he said, to takeout 1000 yards from the quarry conditionally that he was paid od more per yard than what he was receiving in the present contract. Captain Ryder corroborated Mr Isherwood's contentions in respect to the restricted area he was confined to

The chairman sai l that the Board could not definitely give a decision in respect to what had been said until members of the Board lad inspected the locality, which he considered thould be done. It was resolved that the Works Committee should inspect the locality.

MISCELLANEOUS. It was decided to purchase an iron trough for erection in the township and the matter was referred to the Works Committee with power to act. It was resolved to have the footbridge portion of the flarrisvdle bridge repaired and metal laid in the hole on th 9 township side approach. THE PROPOSED POUND.

The chairman reported that the Franklin County Council had promised to contribute £5 towards the proposed pound at Tuakau and he enquired if members were anxious to proceed further with the mutter.

He was of the opinion that in the event of the Board purchasing the property near tbe quarry i L would make a suitable site as there would be water on the section. The saleyards would be tbe handiest, he said, but its value as a pound was decreased by the absence of water thereon.

With a view of saving the Board going to expense Mr Tapper offered the free use of a portion of his property, half a chain square on which was a constant supply of water, for the purpose.

The matter was left to the Works Committee to ascertain particulars and cost etc., a report to be submitted to the Board at a later date. SITE OF THE BRIDGE.

The chairman suggested that as the ratepayers were anxious to have the loan proposals ventilated the Railway Department should be requested to give the Board a definite answer iu respect to the proposed overhead bridge, the erection of which might necessitate considerable alterations to the plans. He stated that Mr Barnaby, of Harrisville, had expressed a wish that the bridge should be erected at the level crossing and on his (the chairman's suggestion Mr Barnaby agreed to collect a sum in the Harrisville district towards the project. Proceeding, the chairman said that in the event of the Department deciding that it would be necessary for the Board to provide the approaches an estimated cost thereof would have to be submitted to the ratepayers for their consideration.

It war, resolved that a deputation consisting of the chairman Mr Pirret and Cupt. Ryder should interview the District Engineer of Railways, Auckland, with a view of getting a definite understanding in the matter.

STATION APPROACH. An acknowledgment of the Board's request for a i-mall piece of property at the corner of Liverpool street to be handed over to the Board for the purpose of widening the approach to the Railway Station was received from the District Engineer 01 Railways, Auckland. Ho rogretted that as the land was required by the Department the Board's request could not be granted.

The letter was recsived and it was decided that the deputation appointed to wait on the District Engineer, Railway Department Auckland, in respect to the overhead bridge should also renew the request in regard to the property.

THE FORTHCOMING ELECTION.

As the Town Board election would shortly bo at hand the appointment of a returning officer had to be made. Mr Tapper was appointed.
