Havirg accepted an appointment to a responsible position under Messrs A H Nathan ard Co. in Auckland, Mr P N King left Mercer on Wednesday last. Appreciation of ttn services Mi King has rendered to the district both as a private resident and as Clerk to ths lown Board was voiced by Mr Morgon, the chairman of tbe Town Board, at the meeting of ratepayer held on Tuesday. Mr Morgon Hlluded with regret to Mr King's pending departure and he paid tribute to the bcliciious and successful manner in which he had carried out his dutiep. For two years, be said, Mr King had filled the position he was about to vacate in a capable manner and without salary, but the Board had met end de-idsd to Rive him an honorarium of £lO. —Mr Trite ard Mr Sweeney both considered that £lO was too small a sum to offer Mr King, but the Utter explained that it was at his own request that he had not been paid a sjlary.—A vote of thanks having been carried amid loud applause, Mr King, in responding, said that his connections with the Board had always been amiable, and be considered that the ratepayers were represented by a Board who had their interests at heart
