A young draught mare, only partially broken iu, ths property of Messrs Eoulston .Bros , of Pukekohe, came to an untimely end oue afternoon last week. Whilst attached to a van it got out of control and making off it ran into a telegr&ph pole, with which its head came into fairly violent contact. Apparently, however, none the worse for the collision it concluded the journey on which it was engaged but subsequently when being taken up the hill in East street to its paddock for the night it commenced to stagger and immediately on entering the paddook it fell to the ground. Death resulted a little time later, evidently from hemorrhage on the brain.

The recent reference in these columns at tho death of Colonel Banks mentioned some of the oilicers that in Col. Banks' time were connected with the Pukekohe Mounted Rilles. A correspondent points out that the officers were Mr F. Drake as Captain ; Messrs 11. Dell, A. Connell and J. W. John* as Lieuts.; and Mr A. Glasson as Sergt.-Major.
