Monthly Meeting. The usual monthly meeting of tbe above authority was held on Tuesday lapt, the members present being Councillors B K McKenzie, chairman, A D Bell, A Muir, J Bryant, A liattaway, together with tbe clerk, Mr A Bell KOAD AT GLENORA BARK
A letter, agreeing to Mr Walters' proposal in connection with the projected road through his property on condition that it was continued right through to jnin the cross road to Pspakura township, wai received from the Otahuhu Trotting Club The chairman raid that Mr Walers was prepared to dedicate the road but was not prepared at present to have it opene:!.—Leter received^ APPROACH TO KAWA KAWA WHARfc'
The Right Hon W F Massey, Prime Minister, wrote stating that he had placed before the Minister of Marir.e tho Council's representations with reierer.ee to a road and approach to t!:e proposed wharf at Kawa Kawa Bay and also the enquiry about an additional grant ot £IOO on a £ for £ basis towards the cost of the approaches, and when a report thereon was received from the District Engineer, Public Works Department, the question as to whether an additional grant of £IOO could be made would be considered POSITION OF POWDER MAGAZINE
Tbe Prime Minister notified ttc Council of bis intention to confer with the Minister of Internal Affairs with regard to a r-'quest submitted by the Council on beh-Ai of Messrs E Porter and Co, agnta lor Nobel's Explosives Company, asking that they be exempted for a period ?f eight years from the regulation requiring explosive magfzints to be not less that a ceitain distarce away from a public road with a guarantee of undisturbed use of the magazine for that pericd if they contributed £2OO towards the cost of forming the Beach road at Maraetai The chairman said that the Prime Minister had asjured him that the matter would be satisfactorily settled CLEAKiNG WATER COURSES It was resolved, on tha motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Bell, that the Wairoa Road Board should be empowed to enforce tbe Drainage Act in the Board's district, i.e., in reference to the clearance of water courses
MISCELLANEOUS It was agreed, subject to Mr P A Wild contributing the material, to put in a side entrance to hh property at Manurewa Crs A D Bell ana Muir were given power to have Brown's bridge, Wairoa, and Muir's bridge, Brcokby road, replaced with new structures, the engineer to submit cost of material beforehand and the foreman to engage a man to supervise both works
FOREMAN'S REPORT The foreman reported as follows: Papakura tiding—That through being unable to do any quarrying up to the present he had arranged to continue in employment through tbe winter some of the County's permanent men. Arrangements had been completed to have the carting ot spawls for Weymouth road carried through, and the portion of Weymouth road in front of the small school repaired and surface work on the ureal South road put in hand Wairoa riding—That the concrete pipes for culverts en East road, Wairo', and one for tbe Wairoa Road Board would be delivered on Wednesday. He suggested that a hearty vote of thanks should be conveyed to the Magazine Company for their gift of land at Maraetai The foreman also enquired whether the owners of property were allowed to use poison to destroy blackberries growing on the roadside in places for which the Council or Road Board issued licenses for cattle grazing on the road
The report was adopted, and in connection with laying poison tns chairman pointed out that persons doing so would te tcting at their own risk
