MAUNGATAWHIRI.
An exciting incident occurred at Pope's Lake, Maurgatahwiri, on the Ist May, the opening day )t the shooting seasoD. At live o'clock to the morning thre3 of a party launched a boat and started to row tor their deitination. When about halt the distance had been covered the boat capsized and its occupants had to strike out for the bark. Mr K Felton, one of the unfortunates, after much difficulty reached the bank in an exhausted condition, having had to swim with his gun and ammunition. Two more of the party then volunteered to try their luck in the boat, but they had cot gone far when they were capsized, both losing their guns and ammunition. Some of the party had to content themselves for the rest of the morning dragging [for the lest guns. Great credit is due to Messrs Alfred Seccombe and David Hyamsun for the gallant way in which they went to the rescu?, especially Mr fcieccombe. Ihe remainder of ths party succeeded in reaching their destination in another boat, and ducks being plentiful good sport was experienced
