TUAKAU SOUTH.
The annual meeting of the Society for the Preservation of the right to catch the fish which Nature provided in the Waikato rivers, was held on Thursday evening of last week. Owing to the proximity of the holidays the attendance was smaller than it might have been. Mr Lawson was voted to the chair and explained for the benefit of new members the object of the Society. The meeting was satisfied with the good work done in the past year and hopeful of similar results in future. It was suggested that the Government be asked, with a view of improving the fish, that a number of the best buck mullet be transferred from the Hauraki Gulf. Other members considered the matter better left to Nature and the proposal is to remain for further consideration. The revenue was reported to be quite sufficient for present requirements.
