PAPAKURA.

SUCCESSFUL SPOFTS MEETING. Favoured with fine weather the annual sports meeting of the Papakura Athletic Club, held yesterday, was most successful. The attendance was slightly less than that of the previous year, the gate takings t-howing a reduction of £6. The financial success of the meeting, however, is likely to be more profitable than last year, owing to the curtailment of the prize ttioney. The sports were, as usual, held on the Domain, and special trains conveying visitors thereto anived from Auckland andthe Waikato. A feature of the gathering was the attention paid to the Highland dancing competitions. In the racing events, despite the attendance of some of the leading athletes of the Dominion, the representatives from the Waikato held their own, J. Pai (Waikato Heads) annexing the Cup and C. H. Parker (Tuakau) the Half-mile and 440 yds Handicap. The arrangements were more efficient than ever, and the officials were very active in their duties, with the result that proceedings concluded in good time. It would be difficult to find another body of men who are doing more for spoit than Mr L- "J. Mills, the Club's solicitous secretary, and his strong working committee, including the president (Mr E. S. Cole), who shows by his actions that he has the interests of the Club at heart. The results of the events wore as follows : Maiden Handicap, 120 yds: Fiißt heat: F. McAnemy, scr., 1 ; J.
