PAPAKURA.
PAPAKURA PATRIOTIC LEAGUE. A committee meeting of the above was held in the Parish Hall on the 10th instant, Mr Alfred Willis presiding. The secretary and treasurer's reports were submitted and adopted. The latter showed that the usual monthly contribution of £9 had been paid into the Belgian Relief Fund and a sum of £53 had been collected and forwarded to the French Red Cioss Fund.—Members expressed themselves as perfectly satisfied with the result.
It was further reported that the League's third monthly contribui tkm of 2o hussifs had been forwarded to the Auckland Women's Patriotic League. The secretary was instructed to write and thank Messrs Tylden and W. Richardson for having placed their cars at the disposal of the Committee in connection with the recent collection on behalf of the French Red Cross Fund. A letter was received from the Mayor of Auckland's Serbian Relief Fund Committee appealing for financial assistance on behalf of the unfortunate Serbians.— On the motion of the chairman it was decided to donate £lO from the Emergency Fund. A circular letter was received from the Auckland Women's Patriotic League inviting the co-operation of the League in providing monthly gifts for eveiy soldier in the Expeditionary Forces. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to issue an appeal which the Committee believe will meet with a hearty response.
Piivate Len Smith, although on active service with the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces and despite strenuous times, does not forget the progress of events in New Zealand. Always an active suppoi ter of the Papakura Athletic Club both ns a competitor and member of the Committee, he has generously forwarded a donation of £1 to the Club's funds with an accompanying letter to Mr L. J. Mills (secretary) as follows:—"Being unable to be present this year at the sports I am sending you my best wishes for a successful clay. Although I am at the Front I am not entirely apart from Sports. In my Company we have both a Eugby and an Association Football team. In my tent there are nine of us, including two Association and three Eugby players and Norman Bennett, the Amateur Featherweight Champion Boxer of Australasia. We are doing some hard training and so of course all the Boys are in the best of condition."
