PATUMAHOE

A meeting of the Reception Committee recently formed to attend to the welcome of the Prime Minister on the occasion ol' his visit to tho Mauku distiict last month, was held in the Patumahoe Hall on Saturday evening. Tho chairman, Mr J. Henry, said he wished to congratulate the committee on tho success of the functions held and on the energetic way all had worked to make the visit a memorable one. He regretted that there had not been better support from Waiuku and Pukekohe for Mauku had loyally assisted similar functions in both

places ami certainly expected help to be reciprocated. Some comment had been made about holding a banquet but, said Mr Henry, they had nothing to reproach ourselves for. It is the first occasion a function of the kind has been tendered to Mr Massey iu Mauku and it certainly would have looked bad for the district if, after all the Prime Minister had done for them, they had failed to give him a lifting welcome. Mr Heuiy stated that ho wished to move a heaity vote of thanks to Mr A. Franklin and Mr Guttield for providing waggons and conveying tlio childiun l'rom the Mauku school to the opening ceremony held iu connection with the Patumalioe post ollice and also Mr F. Kavanagh for his valuable assistance with the children's sweets distribution. Tho secretary Mr F. C. Cuff read the balance sheet which showed a credit of about £■'). This, as had been previously agio d, goes towards the Wounded Soldiers' Fund,

Highly complimentary references were made regarding tho secretary's work and his organising ability. A hearty vote of thanks to tho chairman and socretary lor tho satisfactory and capable manner they had ■ ■juried out arrangements brought the meeting a close.
