WAIPIPI.
The Waipipi and Kobe Kohe School Children's annual picnic took place on Thursdav, March 23rd, in Mr Waller Jones paddock, on the Wharf road. The day was beautifully fine with a nice breeze to temper the heat. At about mid-day there was a fairly large _ gathering present, with many visitors from other districts. Lunch was first partaken of and then the children's races wore started and were kept going hard and fast all the afternoon. The events were of various order and ages from 14 down to very little mites. The adults also engaged in races. Lolly scrambles were included in the attractions. A social in the evening in th<» school concluded the day's outing. The dry weather, combined with the fly pest, has played havoc with many swede crops in the district and it is fortunate that abundant crops of hay will help to tide over cattle feed. Mr Fenwick's chaff cutting and threshing plant has been through the district and some good ypihhj are reported. A returu of '27 ,acks uf barley are stated to have been secured from two to two-and-a-half acres belorging to Mr W. Uicky. Several milking machines have been lately installed in the neighbourhood and are giving every satisfaction.
