DRURY
A concert in aid of tbe Drury Hall extension fund was held on Friday night, and dt spits the threatening: aspect of the weather was well attended. Although the proceedings did not start punctually to time a good natured audience waited Datiently until the genial chairman, Mr J. Flanagan, announced that (he overture would be pliyed by Miss McNaughton; then the interest in the proceedings never Hagged. The lion's share of tlie programme was borne by Mrs McDonntll and Mies McFherson, both ci Auckland, and prime favourites with Drury audiences. Mr (j Harding sang and also recited, his contributions being well rendered, especially "Lasca." Miss Daphne Harding contributed Uo recitatnns with marked ability. Misj Hodgson gave several musical selections, and was applauded. Mr Thompson sang two sangs and the Misses McNaughton contributed a pianoforte duet m a iinished manner. An eloquent patriotic speech was dtlivered by the cbai;man. It was a veritable call to action, and was one of the best recruiting speeches yet heard in the district. A dance was held after tha concert and wa3 well patronised. I'ne M.C. s were Messrs looman and Hamilton, and the catering was in the capable hands of Mes3rs .J and J Kugg. Mr T Swan, tha unssen worker, was there to do his bit, and to help in tde success of the ruuetio; Tbe i J ai triotic Committee are giving a farewell social tc Private E Hill on Thursday night The latest of our lads to enlist are G Bycrott and E Wall. They are to receive treatment at the handß of the dentist and will then b:come soldiers of tha King
