PUKEKOHE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.
Messrs F. Perkins J. Patterson, A. F. Brown, Eb. Smith, J. Bellhouse, F. Jackson and J. Pilkington were present at the monthly meeting of the School Committee held on Monday of last week.
It was reported that the Borough Council could not allow any concession in the price for water supplied to the school and it was decided that the secretary should endeavour to airange with the Education Board for the charge to be equally shared by the School Committee and the Technical and Manual Training School. The Secretary and Mr Bellhouse reported that the interview they had had with Mr Farrell, the Education Board's architect, re desired improvements in connection with drainage, was entirely satisfactory and that a more effective method of disposing of water from the wash basins, etc., would be installed.
With a view to proving the suitability or otherwise of the ground for proposed further sanitary improvements it wns decided that a sum not exceeding £3 be expended in sinking a sump at some distance from the school buildings. The Secretary stated that lie deemed it desirable that he should make a statement, for the assurance of the committee and of parents of pupils in the school, as to the condition of the school premisos. He had pleasure in stating that the committee were fortunate in having the services of a particularly thorough-working caretaker, who had always made free use of disinfectants and who even used such in washing the towels provided for school use. Not only had the premises been scrubbed out during the holidays, but also in the first week of the closing of the school the floors had all again been scrubbed out thoroughly and disinfectants used. Everything possible had always been done and was being done to keep the premises sweet and healthy.—The statement was received with marks of gratification and it was resolved that a letter be sent to Mrs Roger conveying the committee's appreciation of her painstaking work. The committee then sat as the Continuation Classes Advisory Board. It was resolved that Mr F. Perkins be appointed chairman of the Board in place of Rev F. B. Dobson resigned.
In the unavoidable absence of the secretary, Mr J. Bellhouse was appointed acting secretary. A letter was received from the secretary in which he advised the Board to apply to the Supervisor for any information required.—lt was decided that the acting secretary be instructed to apply to the supervisor for a full statement of arrangements made for the conduct of the classes during the ensuing session, the chairman to convene a special meeting of the Board immediately the information is received.
