A letter was received from the clerk of the Papatoetoe Eoad Board as to the proposed- bridge over the Puhi Nui stream asking the Manurewa Board to contribute half the cost uf the construction of the bridge and of the approaches to the sauie. The chairman remarked that he thought it would be a mistake for the Board to encourage the proposal. Mr P. Eoy was of opinion that the matter should be carefully considered. After further discussion the chairman moved, Mr Eoy seconded, and it was agreed that the matter be deferred, the clerk in the meantime to write the Papatoetoe Eoad Board asking them to furnish financial particulars of the project. PROPOSED NEW ROAD. Messrs Harrison and Grierson, road engineers, submitted plans and specifications of a proposed new road from Massey road to the new railway station on Lot 81, Station Estate, Manurewa. A letter received from the secretary of the Manurewa Children's Home acknowledging reminder sent of unpaid rates and enclosing a cheque under protest. He would, he said, renew his application to the new Town Board shortly to be elected for the Home to be exempted from rates. COXHEAD ROAD. A letter was received from Mr John Dawson, C.E., surveyor, reporting upon the formation of Coxhead's Eoad, Mamirewa He was of the opinion that the present dedicated road was the best route until the road struck the swamp and from there a deviation of about 20 chains through Messrs Coxhead and Clayton's properties was advisable. He hadjtaken levels along the swamp but was loth to proceed with plans until tho Board had again considered as to the deviation. A lengthy discussion followed the reading of the letter. The clerk mentioned that the engineer found it necessary to construct a bridge at an estimated cost of £6O. The estimated cost of tho road and bridge was about £559. Mr Coxhead remarked that money was not available for the job, The clerk stated that about £259 would be saved by the deviation. Mr Eoy said he believed in putting in a good foundation and doing nothing cheap. It was better, he said, to spend £SOO on a good road than £3OO on an inferior road. The chairman thought the original plans could be adhered to at a cost of about £IOO. Mr Coxhead was of opinion that the plans were too elaborate for the work and the cash at their disposal. The clerk intimated that there was £3OC iu hand to spend and probably tho Government would give a grant. Ho also remarked that by the deviation the bridge would not be required. Mi- Koy proposed and Mr Druce seconded that the Board should agree to the deviation if legal advice was satisfactory.—Carried. brown's road.
