ONEWHERO.

A correspondent writes:—"The persons circulating the petition counter to that for tho deviation of the Wairamurama-Onewhorci road are busy spreading u rumour that the proposed deviation would necessitate the abandonment of the metalling of the road down tho hill through tho Dawes' Stoney Hill property. This rumour is quite unfounded, as tho deviation would in eo way affect the engineer's plans for that poition of the road. Moreover, there is a point in regard to the Gully road that has not yet been fully emphasisod, viz , to make that road ever decent a deep draiu is necessary down the gully ami through tho lvakiakitea swamp. Are the ratepayers prepared to seo their money squandered in such a manner, largely to improve private property ? "
