A successful Auction" rf gifts for the Church Fund brought tte entertainment to a close
Tbe gocd progress the district is making 13 evidenced from the raturns supplied to the Government statistician. In the Town Board area—two square miles—there is a population of 403 persons, 87 buildings, six stores or offices and two boarding houses. Fifteen new residences have b en erected during the past year, and the general prosperity of the district has been good Mr Mr H R Macbel, another member of thu Musical Society, left last week for Trcntbara to join the 14th Reinforcements
Lieutenant A J Mabee was one of the successful candidates who sat for the A Examination, Seni:r Lieutenancy, at Hamilton last week The demand tor building sites continues. Several quarter-acre sections on Massey road were recently eold at remunerative prices
That this district is destined to become a thickly populated suburban township in the near future ie evidently in the minds ot the owners of the Station and Jtllicoe Estates, both of whom are proposing to open up their properties with roads. While the former party are interesting themselves in arranging access to the railway station troni the northern end of the dis'rict, for the peuple in that locality the other party are engaged in putting into concrete form a scheme wherebytheir estate will be sub-divided into building sections by two miles of roads
That virulent malady, which is attacking Burfr a large proportion of chlidren of tender years, made its unwelcome appearacce in this district some few weeks past. Two tiny children, a boy and a girl, were the sufferers, but through the cartful attention of Dr biookfield, of Papakura, buth have made a good recovery While acknowledging the excellent work the Manukau County Council are doing in foriring a iootpath and putting in kerbing on the Great South road, ratepayers are disappointed that a water channel was not included in the list of proposed improvements. It is considered by many thqt if the wojk is undertaken no.v, while the men are on the job, instead ot later, the cost would be less. It is most important for health reasons that the work should be put in hard im mediately so that the possibilities of stagnant water lying about, as is usual in winter, should be avoided
"Model Suburb" writes:—"ln your issue of Tuesday, March 11th, Manurewa receives unenviable notice in tie fact that a man described as a ' local resident' was charged by the police at Papukura with theft and convicted. As a matter of fact, however, the delinquent was not a resident and was only a casual worker. In justice to the district please correct this statement." A roll of honour purchased by the vestry of St Luke's Church has come to hand and is to be placed in the Church on Thursday next. The Eev. VV. C. Wood, Papakura, will officiate.
