KARAKA KOAD BOARD A special meeting of the Road Board was held on Monday, March 6 hj, mainly for thß purposj ot altering tte course of certain reads in connection with the new ferrc-con-crete bridges. There were present: Messrs Batty, chairman, Kidd, Macpherson and ScMaepfer The plans of the road connecting the two brilgtS and other roads through the Land Company's block, also a plan sbowirg a portion of road to be closed through Mr R UlaasoD's property to give access tu the Whangamaire bridge on the west sic'e, were deult with, the alterations shown being egrced to and tbe pi ins stamped
Atter tbe special bUßitess had been disposed of it was agreed to get some more metal for the Paerata station road from Crawford's lower gate to the boundary of the district beyond the Ostrich Company's entrance, also if practicable fcr Clark's bill and Ellis' roaJ. It was resolved that the clerk should submit a return at the text meeting showing the loan expenditure on each allocation and tbe amount still available Tbe chairman reported that lorming and grading work on the new Waiau-Papakora road, on botb sides of tbe Whangamaire bridge, was beirg pushed ir, four fcoops being at wo k. Before tbe tilling at tbe west end of tte biidge could be d »ne it would be necessary to blast out some bluegum and giant stringy-bark stumps He bad engaged an expert with explosives to do that. The latter would also give an exhibition of blasting out' some tree 3on the road at a distance from the bridge. Tbe County Council, the chairman said, had let the contract for raising tilasson's bridge
Mr Kidd was authorised tu engage a Maori to clear Kerry road, and also to get some forming done on some of the roads at his end of the district out of the loan allocations, no loan money so far having been spent the e It was agreed to draw the attention of the County Council to holes on t v e Urury-Waiuku road, between the BChool and Macyherson's railway crossing and also to suggest to the Council tbe desirability of putting a direction post at the Utter place, The chairman was appointed to confer witb the railway engineer abjut the width of the projected oveiheid bridge at Runciman crossing
