MANUREWA.
A local resident, William George Tarbutt, wag charged by the police, at Fapakura J. t*. % Court on Tue.day list, with having stolen a watch and chain, va 1-jed at 30b, the property of Walter Kangi. The pre s iditig Justices were Messrs D McLennan, J Gaud and Henry Walsh. The cvidonc.* went to show that defendant visited a tent occupied by Hangi, during whofe absence he stole the watch and chain. The matter was reported to the t'apakura police and Tarbutt was arrested at Clevedon the i'ollowinhg day, on a settler's farm where he had obtained employment a few hours' previously. His hut was searched and the watch and chain were recovered by Constable Waugh. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one month's imprisonment
