WHANGAMARINO ROAD BOARD.
Monthly Meeting. The monthly mooting of the above luthority was held at Waerenga on Saturday, the mombers present being Messrs J. 0 Browne (chairman), 11. Hall, J. H. Keith, S Bennett, J). Shanks, J. Sampson, K. Clephane, together with the clerk and enginoer (Mr George Herbert, C.E.). IMPROVEMENTS AT FLAXMILL An application for permission to lay tramlines across the River road at Rangiriri aud to erect an iron shed was receivod from Messrs Maddren Bros., the new owners of the Rangiriri Uaxmill.—lt was agreed to grant permission with respect to the rails on condition that they be removed if so desired by the Board, aud to inform the applicant} that no objection would be raise ! to the erection of tho shed. THE BANK ACCOUNT. A reply to the Board's enquiry as to whether it was the custom of local bodies to keep separate tubdivision banking accounts was received from tho assistant manager. Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, stating that local bodies only kept one General Fund Account. He pointed out, however, that separate accounts were kept in connection with loan moneys but that the Road Board's Act, 1903, did not provile for any division of the General Fund Account. PROPOSED RAILWAY CROSSING The Hoa W H Herri:?, Minister for Kail ways, wrote stating la concection with the Board's icqien fo; a crossing to be pnvided at Rangiriri to give an outlet to settlers that he was inquiring into the matter, and an early intinia'ion would be sent of the decin >n arived at GOVERNMENT METHODS The District Engineer of the Public Works L)epartweit advisM the Board that economy in expenditure of graut money had to be exercised, but that he would give the Board's requrst for the erection of the Whangamarino bridge consideration. He turthcr d sired to know whether or not tender for work on the Taniwha-Okaena ro»d were publicly invited before the work was put in hand, and it bo he asked for a copy of the advertisement to be s:nt lnm. —Ihe chairman pointed out that the latter work was completed twelve monlha ago.— Both letters were received
IMPASSABLE Mr James White, Ike lkc cs'.at?, Waerenga, drew the Hoard's attention to the Btatc of the road leading ftora Taniwha to Messrs Unmwade Bros' property, and reqiested that it should be put into repair so as t3 allow tor the cartage of seed.—The engineer stated that he had arranged to have the work started, but the man engaged did not keep his appointment. —Mr Bennett proposed, and Mr Sampson seconded, and it was agreed, that the work be started immediately, the worst portions of the road to be done first UNDER CONSIDERATION The Minister for Marine acknowledged the receipt of the Board's application for the deposits on the eastern side of Lake Waikare to be vested in the Board, and slated that be was having a report prepared thereon and would communicate with the Board later MISCELLANEOUS The Waikato Land Compnay's failure to comply with the agreement between the company and the Board, in connection with proposed rnad through a property at Men Meri, was considered, and it was decided tc ask a representative of tbe company to wait 01 the Board, tailing which the Board would request the work to be proeedeed with Instructions were iesued to the clerk, on the suggestion of Mr Bennett, to apply for the £IOO grant for the Gorge road FINANCE The clerk reported tint the rates collected since the previous meeting amounted to £200; that there was between £BOO and £9OO, of which the Waerenga riding was responsible for £S4U 6s lid, still outs'anding. He added that ths accounts could be adjusted if one, amounting to £273, was nat considered and the Board went to tbc lull limit of the overdraft, £llOO. The chairman was ol : the opinion that £IOO of ratea could be collected in the Waerenga riding before the end of the pres;nt month. Mr Bennett reported that the Waikato County Council had approved of the payment ol £IOO due to the Board in connection with tbe Waipuna bridge The chairman suggested that an i effort should ba made to collect the £2OO subsidy for the Main road The clerk remarked that the Board was entitled to £IOO subsidy money Mr Ball also mentioned a small amount that wbs due on work at Churchill The chairman promised to communicate with the member for the district, Mr lihudes, and to ask him to endeavour to get payinont before the end of the month from the Public Works Department of subsidies duo.
