BUCKLAND.

The main road, in the vicinity of the railway station, urgently requires re forming. The tratlic on the road is exceptionally heavy, and it is hoped that the County Council will institute repairs before the winter starts. The School Committee are to be commended ou, their wisdom in

fumigating the school as a deterrent to the iufantile paralysis epidemic, whic so far is an unknown quantity in the district. The school is now working full time again. The valuation of the district as regards building shows a considerable increase. Amongst the houses recently erected are two owned by Mr F. Souster, one of eight rooms and the other a five-roomed dwelling. Both are tenanted. Mr N. Jamieson, who had a fine yield of oat?, has a splendid 12-acre turnip crop which so far has escaped the molestation of the lly. A capital field of maize, between six and seven feet high, is to be seen on Mr Home's property. LADY LIVERPOOL LEAGUE. The Buekland branch of the Lady Liverpool League met in the Public Hall ou Thursday, February 21th. Mrs Wily presided, and a number of ladies were present. It was reported that during the month a parcel of comforts had been forwarded to Privato Hayr, who had left the district for tho front. The following persons handed in work:—Mrs Mc Anally, 6 pairs socks ; Mr 3 McKean, 5 pairs socks ; Mrs Hume, 4 pairs socks; Mrs Milroy and Mrs J. Barber, 2 pairs socks each; Mesdames Jesser and 'Harris, Misses Johnston and McKean, 1 pair socks each ; Mrs Jesser 2 body belts ; Miss Johnston, 1 body belt The following donations were reported : —Mrs J. K. Hamilton, 10s; Mrs A. Melville, 6s; Mrs Walker, 43; Mrs Jackson, os; Mesdames Pulman, H. Barber, Graham, Neal, McAnally, and Miss Johnston, 2s 6d each ; Mrs Allan, 2s.
