SCORING OFF THE LAND AGENT.

A good story is being tcld about a land agent, lie was an energetic agent. His very worst enumy would not have accused him of lack of push. He might have said that his cheek was unequalled and that he was snub proof. But this would not huve maligned his character, lie met every train he possibly could, and if to his eye the traveller appeared a possible land buyer that agent promptly introduced himself and pushed busineES. A land agent had no right to be modest, he said. One day there came to that town a fatmc, who had not long purchased a property norne 18 miles away. Passing the

agent's effice the farmer pais:d to read tha cards offering great land snipe. He was rather ast nish:d to resd the description of a property which answered in every respect to his Gwn. As fce did not want to sell ar.d Ihe agent was a cimplete stranger to him this was a bit cf a puzzler. At first the farmer was a bit mad, then he thouiht over the matter, an idea came to him and h 6 smilei. He entered the agent's office and said he was looking for a property, descibing bis own. "Oh," said the Egent, "I've just got n projerty that will suit yoj. V\e II drive out and see it." The farmer was agreeable and the pair drove off. As surmised, the.ogent took the farmer to his own property. On arriving at the phce the 'agent said he would see it the owner was at home. Accordingly they WBlked to the house (the farmer was a bachelor), the agent knocked at the door, but no response. "Allow me to h.lp yot'," said the farmer, as he took the key trom where it had been "planted," and opened the dcor. "Come in and I'll make you a cup of tea. You see I'm the owner of this place. 1 was wondering how I wss going to get home, and it was awfully good of you to drive me."
