The Rabbit Pest.
TO THE EDITOB. Owing to the scarcity of news in the Mauku district it would seem desirable to mention that there are still some rabbits in evidence, there. Not that Mauku rabbit] are any different from rabbits of other districts, not that they are more plentiful than in other districts, but still they are present in such numbers ss will materially affect the production of the pastures. Last seasm systematic poisoning was carried out by many I cal bodies and by branches of the Farmers' Union. This gave excellent results aj far as jt went, but there were ten loip-holej for the rabbits In the ri st place the whole ot the countryside was not laid with poiaon, as saveral districts did cot participate Secondly, all the districts didnpt participate at the one time To effectually control the rabbit pest both these points require at : tention. Whether it be the Farmers' Union or local bodies that sujeivi-e this seasons poisoning it is suggested thai it should be arranged wjth Inspector Rowan that, at feast all districts contained in the Franklin County should poison at the one and the same time, and that very shoitlp.—1 am, etc., W S HILL "Ji Ti."
