During a recent thunderstorm a local settler bad the misfortune to lose, bv lightning, a line sow and a litter ot thirteen young When found, they were lying peacefully together, having apparently been killed instantaneously. A slightly singed appearance was the only indication of the causa of death" Mr Wm Keith has also lest a fire stack of meadow hay by spontaneous combustiuii. The hay was stacked early in December of last year under rather adverse weather conditions, and being on the green site it heated. Possibly the sudden fall in the barometer recorded last week may have removed the air pressure Eomewliat and caused the teat to rise suffiiently to burst into flames. Mr Keith will be a heavy loser, as it is now too late to replace by cutting additional hay Our local ecliool opened on February Ist under the capable management of Mr M Brown, ably assisted by Miss Moyes, who has recently been appointed to the junior position.
